Since it opened its doors in 1989, Snappers has held claim to one of the best waterfront views along the Keys--and to a loyal following. Caribbean-style seafood and prime steaks are mixed with a relaxed, casual atmosphere and rotating weekly specials. Guests can enjoy an intimate dinner inside, soak up the sun on the waterfront patio, or hunker down at the Tiki bar for an evening of happy-hour specials. Jazz brunch is offered every Sunday along with other nightly events, such as Martini Mondays. Snappers also hosts unusual restaurant events, such as the kick-off party for "Keys Woofstock," a pet rescue adoption, fundraising, and music fair all rolled into one. According to the website, the original building has a colorful history, including surviving pillaging pirates and hurricanes.

It's not the restaurant you want to come to if you're looking for a quiet fine-dining experience, but if you're looking for an energizing evening with good music and food, it might be worth a visit. Creative seafood dishes served on paper plates and a casual waterfront setting make Calypso's an unpretentious favorite local hangout for lunch, happy hour, and dinner. The chef-owner likes to heat up the dishes with some spice, but there are plenty of mild options for those seeking a more subdued experience for their taste buds. The view from the dining room overlooks the marina, making for good people watching as well as sunset gazing. As of 2010, Calypso's is a cash-only restaurant.
