The first thing you must do is file the form I-129F with the USCIS. Once the petition is processed it will be sent to the National Visa Center for more processing. If it is approved there then it will be sent to the consulate or embassy in your fiance's home country. It is extremely important that this form be filed exactly as stated in the instructions. All supporting evidence like photos, love letters, similar items must be included. The more evidence that is submitted with the application the better because the entire packet will be sent to the foreign embassy for processing.

Make an appointment for an interview. Once you receive the letter that your petition has been approved you still have to make an appointment with the consulate for a visa interview. Here all of the information you presented will be reviewed. Make sure to carry copies with you and any additional supporting information you have. Follow all guidelines for the interview or you will be denied entry into the building and will have to make another appointment and pay an additional fee.

Attend the interview with supporting documentation. Take proof of your relationship with you to the visa interview. Photos, emails, letters, phone bills, gifts, cards, and anything that will prove you have a romantic relationship are essential. If you can't prove to the interviewer that your relationship is real then you will be denied the visa.

Prepare for the future. Once the K-1 fiance visa is approved the individual has up to six months to enter the United States on the visa. However, as soon as the individual enters the US the time frame for marriage begins ticking. The couple must marry within three months of entering the US or the fiance will lose their non-immigrant status and must return to their home country. Because of this rule it is important to only use this type of visa if you really plan on getting married within the time frame of the visa.
