Locate an Alabama driver's license office near you. Days and hours of operation will vary.
Supply the office with a primary form of identification, such as a U.S. birth certificate, a certificate of naturalization or citizenship, a U.S. certificate of birth abroad, a resident alien card or a foreign passport with a U.S. immigration document.
Supply the office with a secondary form of identification if your primary form of identification does not contain a photo. Acceptable forms of identification include a U.S. state ID or driver's license, school records or photo IDs, work or military IDs, tax documents and court records such as adoption or divorce decrees. If you are a non-U.S. citizen, you may also supply an employment authorization document, visa, I-94 or I-797 as your secondary document.
Supply the office with your Social Security card. This is a requirement of those who possess a Social Security number or who are eligible to receive one. In lieu of a Social Security card, the office will accept a certified letter from the Social Security Administration with your name and number, a U.S. military ID or DD-214, a Medicare or Medicaid card or a W-2.
Pay the fee of $23.50 (as of 2010). The driver's license office will not accept checks.
