How to Route With PC Miler

Instructions

  1. Enter the Address of Origin

      Open PC Miler software. Notice the active route entry window which opens automatically once the software loads.

      Select the appropriate region by clicking the "Options" button. It is located on the active route entry window in between the buttons labeled "Run" and "Frame." Once the Options dialog window opens, select the proper region from the "Region" pick list.

      Type the address of origin into the section of the active route entry window which reads, "Stop." The address can be entered in different formats: the city and state abbreviation separated by a comma, the postal code or the SPLC code. The address can also be selected by latitude/longitude point or by pointing and clicking on the featured map.

      PC Miler automatically considers the first address on the stop list as the address of origin.

      Press the button labeled "Run" to submit the address.

    Enter Destination and Stops

      Press the "F7" key to insert the destination address and additional stops. An additional active route entry window will open.

      Repeat the steps required to enter the address of origin. This includes selecting the appropriate region and entering the stop's address in an appropriate format.

      Arrange the stop or destination address in the correct order. To do this, highlight the address, hold down the "Shift" key and and push the appropriate "Up" or "Down" arrow.

      Press the button labeled "Run" to submit additional stops and destination. Notice mileage, time and cost estimates which will appear to the right of each stop.

    Customize the Route

      Click the button labeled "Options" to customize the route. This is the same button used to select the appropriate region and is located in between the "Run" and "Frame" buttons.

      Select routing preferences. To do this, click on applicable boxes next to options such as "Borders open," "Hub routing" and "Toll discouraged."

      Select "Practical," "Shortest" or "Enhanced ETA" to specify the type of route preferred.

      Click "Ok" and then "Run" to submit your customized options.

    Compare Possible Routes

      Analyze the data generated for the route you have customized. Every time "Run" is selected, data will appear in the route entry window, to the right of the stops designated. This data includes mileage per stop, overall mileage, cost per mile, total estimated time and projected toll fees.

      Select "Duplicate route" from the file menu.

      Change options in the duplicate route entry window. To do this, repeat the steps required to customize your route. Consider changing options such as the type of route and types of roads used.

      Select "Comparison" from the report menu to view a concise comparison of all your route variations. You can have up to eight variations at once. Analyze the comparison report to choose the best possible route for your situation.
