How to Put Mail On Hold Online

When you are going out of town for an extended period, it’s often more convenient to ask the postal service to hold your mail rather than getting a friend or neighbor to check your mailbox daily. The U.S. Postal Service allows residents of some ZIP Codes to request a mail hold by using an online form.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to usps.com. Click “Customer Service,” then “Hold Your Mail” to get to the online form.

    • 2

Type your ZIP Code into the box and click “Go.”

    • 3

Fill in the name and address information requested.

    • 4

Read the Privacy Act Statement and click “Continue.”

    • 5

Select the dates you want to begin and end the mail hold. Indicate whether you want the mail delivered at the end of the period or will pick it up. Click “Continue.”

    • 6

Verify your information and click “Submit.”

    • 7

Print out the confirmation number. You will need the confirmation number to modify or cancel your request.
