Download and complete the visa application, available from the website of the Embassy of Egypt in Washington DC. Travelers who arrive at an Egyptian airport may submit this document, together with the visa fee and their passport upon landing, although obtaining a visa in advance is recommended.
Submit the application, together with the application fee (cash or money order payable to the Consulate of Egypt), passport, and photographs, to an Egyptian embassy or consulate. An international list of all Egyptian Embassies and Consulates is available from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Non-Americans will be required to supply additional information, including a photocopy of their round-trip tickets or travel itinerary. Enclose a self-addressed stamped certified envelope. The Egyptian embassy estimates a ten-day processing time, not including mailing.
Obtain a letter from a travel agency supporting travel. This letter should indicate that you intend to keep to your travel itinerary and leave Egypt on the specified. You can acquire the letter at the border, but fees vary significantly and, without this letter, a traveler without a visa may only be allowed to travel in Sinai for fourteen days. With a travel agency supporting letter, a traveler may be allowed to purchase a thirty-day renewable visa for $15.
