How to Obtain a Visa to Enter Egypt

Egypt requires foreign visitors to have both a passport and a visa when they enter the country, but the process of obtaining a visa is relatively simple. Unlike other countries, you can obtain a visa at any airport or major port of entry when you arrive in Egypt. One exception involves anyone arriving from Israel at the Taba border crossing in Sinai. If such travelers have not obtained a visa prior to their arrival, they will be subject to certain travel restrictions within Egypt.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Gather everything you need to obtain an Egyptian visa, including the visa application, a passport-sized photo, $15, a copy of your itinerary, and, if you are applying by mail, a self-addressed stamped envelope. While it is sometimes easier to obtain the visa at the airport or point of entry in Egypt, you'll want to double-check that you have everything you need once you get to Egypt.

    • 2

Fill out the visa application and attach all necessary items, including a 2"x2" photo in the appropriate box. Make sure to fill out all fields to ensure appropriate filing and processing. This includes such information as the dates of any previous visits, the names of anyone people traveling with you, the purpose of your visit, and the duration of your stay.

Mail your visa application to the appropriate Egyptian consular office in New York City, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco or Washington, D.C., or drop the application off if you live in those cities. Processing time for visa applications submitted by mail is approximately 10 business days, plus mailing time.
