If you're visiting Malaysia, you'll need a passport from your country of citizenship to get through customs. You must have a return flight or other transit out of Malaysia booked, and you can't stay longer than 14 days. There is a $100 USD fee for a visitor's visa.
If you're going to Malaysia to work, you will require a few documents in addition to a valid passort. You'll need a work permit, visa for employment and residence, eight copies of Customs Form No. 1 and a letter from your employer describing your job, its duration and why it could not be filled by a Malaysian citizen.
Anything you are taking in or out of Malaysia is subject to inspection by customs agents. All electrical devices coming into Malaysia require an Import Permit. Tobacco products and alcoholic beverages are subject to high import duties. Movies and films can only be brought into the country if they have been approved by Malaysia's Film Censorship Board. Weapons, narcotics, food, pornography, gold and literature on communism are all strictly prohibited, as are any goods from Israel. These goods cannot be brought into or out of Malaysia.
Travelers who have visited areas where yellow fever was present must present certificates of yellow fever vaccination before entering Malaysia. Travelers from cholera-infected areas may also need to show vaccination certificates.
