Delta Airline Security Guidelines

Delta Airlines Security has been the subject of much controversy. While Delta is subject to the same TSA security guidelines as all other airlines, they have taken their security precautions a step further by instituting a new invasive background check as part of a test program.
  1. Traditional Security Guidelines

    • As an American-based airlines, Delta is governed by the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) guidelines and restrictions. These include no liquids or creams of any kind over 3 oz., and no knives, scissors, lighters or weapons. Government-issued identification, along with your boarding pass, is required in order to pass through security.

    Background Checks

    • In 2003, Delta launched a test program that involved running background checks, credit checks and a banking history investigation of prospective passengers. According to the results, passengers were given a security danger rating of green, yellow or red, with greens being clear, yellows needing additional research and reds being restricted from flight.

    Reaction

    • The policy underwent a tremendous amount of criticism for being an invasion of privacy, and even threatening to the investigated passenger's credit rating. It also spurned attacks on government background checks, and the policies of other airlines. Since 2003, more efficient and less invasive methods of security have been established to ensure safer and less offensive travel.
