Hike Puerto Rico's renowned forests. El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. (Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory), with a picturesque waterfall. The Gunica Dry Forest leads to one of the island's most beautiful beaches.
Interact with wildlife. Go bird-watching in the Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge, whale watching at Rincon Lighthouse Observation Park and snorkling off of Mona Island, "The Galapagos of the Caribbean." Take a night-time excursion to the bioluminescent bay, where microscopic dinoflagellites light up around you while you swim.
Explore the depths of a natural cave. Rappel 200 ft into the Angeles Sinkhole at Angels Cave then take a mudslide swish into the Camuy River. Then, take a trolley ride down into the sinkhole of Río Camuy Cave Park.
Make like the island's first Indian settlers and go canoeing. Go kayaking through El Yunque or canoe across one of the island's natural river systems.
Hang ten. Puerto Rico is surrounded by two oceans: the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, making for unique surfing conditions. The best conditions are from November to April.
Travel the island's Panoramic Route by bicycle or car. Traverse the Island from east to west through the central mountain region.
