With the economy down and money tight most people think it is to expensive to take small vacations. Over the years this is something my friends and I have got down to a science. We love to just get out of town for the weekend. Here are some easy idea that are all relatively inexpensive.
Camp outs! Going camping/canoeing is a great way to get away and it normally doesn't cost very much. You need a tent, a cooler some blankets and you are ready to go. Get a few of you friends to go and it can be a lot of fun. You can make it as relaxing or a strenuous as you want.
My friends and I build a huge campfire, sit in lawn chairs telling stories. We fish, play in the nearby river and just enjoy being away from home for a few days. The canoeing is fun and it can be adventurous as well.
Have a lake or the beach that is with in a few hours of your house. Find an inexpensive resort and go for two-three days.
Some friends of ours have a lake house so we normally take food and our swimsuits and that is it. We spend the day laying out, fishing, going out on the lake, tubing and swimming. We pay for gas and food. Its a little bit of money but it also makes for a very fun weekend.
If you are broke but you really need to get out of your house for a few days you can. Do a little research and find a motel in the next town over from your home town. I have seen hotel/motels for 40 bucks a night so if you are interested then just do it. You will not be a home where anyone can call or stop by. If you want shut off your cell phone and veg out on TV. It is a cheap weekend get away.
Plan a fun trip with your friends. Then figure out how you can make it cheaper. Figure out what you would be willing to give up or trade for a cheaper activity.
My friends and I normally go to Vegas every year but this year the trip kept getting more expensive. None of us could afford it so we decided to go some where different this year, somewhere none of us had been before. This turned out to be Myrtle Beach, SC. We figure out if we rented a care and drove (18 hours one way) we could save over $300 per person. We found a great resort on the beach paid only a little extra for the beach front room. We only paid $212 per person for the 5 day trip. This included some food, all the gas, car and the room. We found a way to make our money stretch and it was a great trip my friends and I will not forget.
