How did people and goods travel from Venice to damascus Alexandra?

People traveled by land, following the Via Maris trade route, or over the sea. There were frequent storms at sea, and pirates often attacked ships. Goods could be transported by land or sea, but land was preferred since pirates didn't attack goods on land. For safety reasons, caravans traveled in large groups. The overland route was more difficult and dangerous than the sea route, and it took longer to travel. Additionally, traveling over land required more supplies, such as food, water and other provisions for the journey.
