How long was the Viking invasion of England?

There was no single Viking invasion of England, but rather a series of raids and invasions that occurred over a period of several centuries. The first recorded Viking raid on England took place in 787, when a group of Vikings attacked the monastery of Lindisfarne. The Vikings continued to raid and invade England throughout the 9th and 10th centuries. In the late 9th century, the Vikings established a permanent settlement in England, in an area that became known as the Danelaw. The Vikings were eventually defeated by the English king Alfred the Great in 878, but they continued to raid England until the early 11th century.
