The Royal Scotsman is a five-star luxury train that departs from Edinburgh for tours through Scotland ranging from two to eight days. The Royal Scotsman stops at various villages and scenic attractions throughout Scotland. The five-day Royal Scotsman train tour stops at two famous distilleries. On the first day of the tour, passengers visit the Strathisla Distillery, home of Chivas Regal whisky, in Keith. The train stops in Elgin on the second day to take guests on a tour through the Glen Grant distillery, founded in 1840.

The Malt Whisky Trail winds through Speyside and includes seven working distilleries. Vacationers can reach Aberdeen by day trains from London or hourly trains that depart from Edinburgh and Glasgow. Trains departing from Inverness, Birmingham and Plymouth can also take passengers to the Malt Whisky Trail. Whiskey festivals that include parties and special nosings are featured in May and September. Each distillery along the trail has its own distinct history and special whisky recipes. All of the distilleries offer tours and most of them have been around since the early 19th century.
