  1. Northeastern Region

    • Travel along the Maine coast by train

      The Maine Eastern Railroad travels through coastal towns from Brunswick, Maine to Rockland, with stops along Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor and Bath. One way tickets range from $27 to $53 and round trip tickets range from $42 to $58. The trains themselves are restored stainless steel railcars from the 1940s and 50s. Snacks and drinks are served.

      The Cape Cod Central Railway in Massachusetts takes the scenic route through sand dunes and historic areas. It hosts murder mysteries, elegant dinners, wine tastings and other opportunities. Fares run between $40 and $100 per person.

    Mid-Atlantic Region

      The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway travels along the Toccoa River. It has been in operation for a little over a century. It travels through Blue Ridge and McCaysville--both in Georgia--as well as Copper Hill, Tennessee. Each trip lasts four hours. Fares cost between $32 and $39, with discounts for senior citizens and children.

      The Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad in Romney, West Virginia, features meals and open air seating. A one-of-a-kind experience lies in one particular stop in secluded land where you will have the chance of seeing American bald eagles in the wild. Tickets range from $38 for a three hour trip to $80 for an all day trip, with discounts for senior citizens and children. Tickets are available that include the price of a full meal as opposed to sandwiches and drinks purchased separately.
