How to Build a Tent Heater

Even summer camping trips can turn unexpectedly cold with an influx of bad weather. Every good camper knows that the Boy Scouts' motto of "Be Prepared" is especially true when it comes to being warm in your tent. Nothing spoils a camping trip faster than being cold and miserable. By building a homemade tent heater and keeping it on hand in case of emergency you'll always be prepared for whatever Mother Nature has in store.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the cardboard center piece out of the middle of a roll of toilet paper and put the roll in an empty 30 oz. fruit can. The sides of the paper should be pressed against the sides of the fruit can and the top of the roll should be just under the top of the can.

    • 2

Place the fruit can in an 8-by-8-inch aluminum cake pan.

    • 3

Measure three oz. of isopropyl alcohol and pour it over the toilet paper roll. Use a lighter or matches to light the toilet paper roll.

    • 4

Keep your tent heater running until the tent is warm. Once you are comfortable, put a second 8-by-8-inch aluminum cake pan over the can to put out the flame.

    • 5

Light the toilet paper roll again when the tent becomes uncomfortably cold, adding additional alcohol when needed.
