Camping in Illinois

Camping provides you with the opportunity to discover the assorted wildlife and diverse scenery of Illinois. Camping enthusiasts take advantage of the many Illinois campgrounds, such as Shawnee National and Blackhawk Valley parks, for example. Campgrounds offer more than just a place to pitch your tent or park an RV overnight. You will find manmade features as well--swimming pools, water slides, mini-golf, basketball courts and more.

Instructions

Choose your Illinois campground site. Find listings of campgrounds in the state at illinoisgocamping.com.

Review the descriptions of the campgrounds. Determine if a campground has what you're looking for, whether its a back-to-nature experience or many manmade attractions. Illinois campgrounds offer an assortment of experiences. For example, Illinois Beach State Park, located north of Chicago next to Lake Michigan, is wonderful for those who enjoy swimming. Rock Cut State Park near Rockford offers hiking trails. Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois is a place for hiking, horseback riding and rock climbing. Yogi Bear Jellystone Campground, in the north part of Illinois, has waterslides and golfing.

Book your reservation online or call the campground if no online form is available. Campgrounds are busy in the summer and, says the travelers website BootsnAll, "early or late season camping is sometimes hard because of campground closures." Do not show up at a campground without booking a reservation first.
