Mount Kilimanjaro, 19,341 feet high, is the tallest mountain on the continent and has concessions and resting huts for tourists to use during their climb, according to BBC News Magazine. The hike to the top can take five days of travel through grassland, forest and glacier. Less adventurous climbers may consider The Usambara Mountains and Crater Highlands, as recommended by The Tanzania Tourist Board.
Travellers to The Zanzibar Archipelago, located along the Tanzanian coast, can swim, snorkel and explore the pristine beaches of this string of Indian Ocean islands. Zanzibar, Pemba, and Lamu are rich in Swahili culture and the history of the spice trade, according to the Tanzania Tourist Board. On Zanzibar, in the Jozani Forest, visitors can glimpse the rare Red Colobus monkey.
Visitors to Tanzania can travel to more than a dozen nature and game preserves on safari and observe elephants, lions, giraffes and rhinos and 1,500 species of birds in their natural habitat. Safaris are available to fit every budget, from low-cost camping to luxury lodges. Adventurous travellers can try "fly" camping, a walking safari where guests tour on foot and sleep in the African bush with no tent -- only a mosquito net.
