Donations to the Red Cross can go towards relief supplies as well as medical supplies. You can donate a minimum of $5 via iTunes. You can text "REDCROSS" to 90999 to make a $10 donation that will be charged to your next phone bill, or you can donate via a Red Cross web page for donations to the recovery efforts in Japan.
Donate to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army has been active in Japan for over a century and was also one of the first organizations to respond to the disaster. Donated money goes toward relief supplies. The Salvation Army has two ways to donate money. You can text the word "Quake" or the word "Japan" to 80888 to add a $10 charge to your phone bill, or you can visit a website specifically for donating to its earthquake recovery efforts in Japan.
Donate to Doctors without Borders. Doctors Without Borders is a New York-based non-profit that offers medical assistance on an international level and has flown in several medical teams by helicopter to some of the hardest hit areas of Japan. Donations make it possible for Doctors Without Borders to send the most highly qualified volunteer emergency workers to the region. To donate to Doctors Without Borders, either call its 24-hour phone line at 1-888-392-0392 or donate via its website.
Donate to Global Giving's Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. As of March 11, 2011, Global Giving is working with other non-profit organizations including Save the Children to provide medical assistance and relief supplies to survivors of the disaster and has raised $315,346 for the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund with a goal of raising $850,000. Global Giving has set up a specific page on its website for donating to the recovery efforts in Japan.
