Hong Kong is a tiny peninsula at the southern border of China. It is also relatively close to Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, so if you plan to take a trip to Hong Kong, it may be a good idea to stop over at one of these other Counties as well.

The number one airline flying to Hong Kong is Cathay Pacific. They offer non-stop flights to HK daily and have good service, so I fly with them every time. Keep in mind that high season to Hong Kong is pretty much after November until February because of Christmas and the following Chinese New Year. Cost can almost double during this period, so if you are flexible with your travel dates, try to go during the slow season. I prefer to go in March, April, or October, as the weather is nice. You should know that Hong Kong can get very hot and humid during the summer, and you need to bring extra clothes for changing.

Start shopping for a flight and hotel package online at expedia, orbitz, or hotels.com. Hong Kong is basically divided into two islands, Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Island. Most first timers stay at Hong Kong Island because it is more of a tourist City. However, no matter where you stay, you will be able to get around very easily as they have a well designed subway, bus, train, and ferry system. Taxis are also everywhere, but most locals take the subway. Hotel prices just like everywhere else, can vary by alot. The Peninsula Hotel is one of the oldest and most expensive hotels to stay at. So if you want to go all out, book a room there.

Here are a few things that you should do while you are in Hong Kong. One of the top spots that everybody visit is the Mountain Top overlooking the whole Hong Kong Island. Take the trolley up and enjoy the view day or night. Another tourist spot is definitely the new Disneyland that was built a few years ago. You should know that the Disneyland in Hong Kong is small compared to the Disneyland and Disney world elsewhere, but if you are a fan, you should definitely go check it out.

Besides the tourist spots, the best thing to do in Hong Kong is shopping. You can buy just about anything and everything in Hong Kong. You name it, they have it. New shopping centers are always being built. I'm talking about 5, 6, or 7 levels of a mall filled with designer boutiques and specialty shops. However, if you want to buy unique gifts, you would likely have to go to the streets. Just ask your hotel front desk to see where the closest place is to the hotel. It can't be further than 15 minutes.

The other thing you have to do in Hong Kong is eat. You have to try the local food while you are there. Why go all the way there for a steak? They do have a Ruth's Chris there by the way. Chances are when you are shopping on the streets, you will see restaurant after restaurant. Believe me, most of them are good. Pick one that's crowded and go in. You have to try the Wonton Noodle and the coffee at the local cafe. Makes me want to go back just thinking about it. Try the dim sum place in the morning or afternoon, and you will blend in with the 6 or 7 million people that lives in a City not bigger than LA. Now let's book that trip and go have some fun!
