The town of Huntsville is home to 18,000 permanent residents, but the numbers swell in the summer months as tourists and cottage owners from southern Ontario flock to the area. The Algonquin Provincial Park is one of the largest parks in Ontario and has day use and overnight camping, canoeing, hiking and kayaking and fishing. There is also interior camping accessible only via hiking or paddling in a canoe to the campsite. There are 8 campgrounds and 14 hiking trails accessible by car located in the 56 kilometers between the east and west gates on Highway 60.
