  1. The Luna Azul

    • This 44-foot sailboat--its name translates as "the Blue Moon" from the native Spanish--offers a unique and enjoyable sailing experience to anyone looking to get off of solid land for a while. Travelers can hire the Luna Azul to take them on day trips to the many pristine bays near Huatulco or even to the beautiful coral reef that sits just offshore. While in the bays, it is highly recommended that the tourists take the opportunity to snorkel in the water and enjoy the beautiful water and indigenous fish life that can be found beneath the surface. If you are looking for a more romantic setting, the Luna Azul also features a daily sunset cruise where travelers can enjoy the beautiful sunsets while availing themselves of the wine and variety of cheeses served by the crew.

    Punta Celeste Archaeological Dig

    • Discovered in 1997, the Punta Celeste archaeological dig has been undergoing excavation ever since--though full excavation has been hampered by lack of funds. As of January, 2010, access to the site is still relatively restricted due to safety concerns and lack of funds. But tourists can still come and walk among the various pyramids and burial sights that have been unearthed. The ruins are of particular importance to those interested in ancient history, as they date back to almost 500 BC and are the only pre-Columbian site to be discovered on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. As of January 2010, a museum is also said to be in the works, though no opening date has been released.

    Overland Tours

    • For the more active travelers, there are a variety of tours offered in Huatulco. An adventure tour will take tourists overland on a series of ATVs and four-wheel-drive vehicles to several different bays and beaches, while the tour guides offer information on the history of the region and an introduction to the religious history of the original settlers. Another tour offered is the Coffee Plantation Tour, in which visitors travel through the vegetation to a local family-owned coffee plantation. In addition to some spectacular scenery, which include some beautiful waterfalls, the visitors will also learn about the process of coffee cultivation.
