The Delaware River runs along the southern part of the State of New Jersey, creating the border between it and Pennsylvania. Running through the Kittatinny Mountains (a ridge of the Appalachian Mountains system), the Delaware river creates one of the scenic wonders of the United States, designated in 1965 as the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. There is tubing, swimming and a lot of water oriented recreation all along this area of the Delaware River.
The Atlantic Ocean creates the natural border along the east side of New Jersey, creating a long series of developed beach properties, towns and cities with boardwalks. Atlantic City, which was one of the first casino and gambling hubs in the United States was built along one stretch of coastline bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Incredibly valuable beach property is also owned all along the Jersey shore, with tourist attractions, bars, restaurants and entire beach communities thriving during the summer months, where people flock to swim in the waves, and lie out on the beach to get sun.
