Attractions in Upstate New York

Though no actual boundary marks the area of Upstate New York, it is generally considered to include the entire state, except Long Island and Manhattan. Upstate New York historical locations include Revolutionary forts and battle sites and the Erie Canal. The area encompasses miles of nature preserves and includes the Catskill Mountains.     • Six Flags Great Escape Amusement Park and Splashwater Kingdom provides amusement for both adults and children. The park offers several thrill rides, including roller coasters and swinging pirate ships. The park also features rides specifically designed for children. Relax in the wave pool or slide down a water slide at Splashwater Kindgom. Six Flags also offers entertainment.

    Ballooning Adventures

    • View Upstate New York from a hot air balloon. Fly over historic villages and towns, view miles of farmland and take in the beauty of mountaintops, nature preserves and waterways. Flights take off from Lake George, Saratoga, Glens Falls and the Adirondacks during the morning or evening. Expect to be in the air for approximately three hours. Reservations are required.

    Fort Ticonderoga

    • Go back in time and experience history first-hand at Fort Ticonderoga. Built in 1755, for use by the French in the French and Indian War, the fort also served as an important post in the American Revolution. Costumed interpreters, a fife and drum band and musket demonstrations help to bring the fort back to life. You can take a 30-minute guided tour and view the exhibits at the museum to learn about the fort in detail.
