Club 216 is primarily a gay and lesbian club, but in reality it is popular with anyone, gay or straight, who likes to party late into the night, when everything else in town has shut down. Located in the downtown area and open Friday and Saturday nights until 5 a.m., Club 216 requires you either to be a member or a guest of a member to enter. Membership can be purchased for $50 a year. Beer is sold, but if you prefer liquor, you must bring your own bottle, which the bartenders will gladly mix for you.

With a prime location right on the downtown mall, club R2, connected to the ever-popular Rapture restaurant, heats things up, playing a mix of hip-hop, funk, 80s, and dance rock, as well as DJ mixes and top 40 hits. The ultra-modern lights, videos, and acoustics are sure to inspire you on the dance floor. Friday and Saturday nights always draw big crowds, and occasional weekdays are dedicated to specialized dance parties as well, like the Tuesday night goth/industrial/electronic dance music parties. Here you will find mostly locals and young professionals ready for a night of drinks and dancing.

X lounge is an ultra-sleek, hip, and modern night life destination, located just off the downtown mall, up the street from South Street Brewery, another bar in the area that draws big crowds. X lounge has a sophisticated feel to it and attracts mostly young professionals in their 20s and 30s. Although more a restaurant than a dance club, it does have a dance floor that gets going later at night. Dance parties and special events are a frequent occurrence.

Another place to flaunt your dance moves in Charlottesville is Three, located on The Corner, where University of Virginia students can always be seen hanging out and having fun. Although like X lounge, Three is not technically a dance club, Saturday nights are 80s nights, and the dance floor always becomes packed with rowdy dancers, most of whom are college students.
