For those who want to stay in shape, events such as the Valentine's Day 5K run are available.This event is slated for February 13 in 2011. The run starts at 10 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony at 11.30 a.m. This event includes a 5K run and a walk. For kids, a 1K run helps get them get a feel for the event and develops a headstart on a healthy lifestyle. This event is part of the RunDenver series that includes a number of other runs, such as the Super Bowl 5K.
Another Washington Park event is the Scream Scram 5K run and walk that has a Halloween theme. The organizers present awards following the conclusion of the run. Participants dress up for Halloween and to compete for the best costumes awards, including a team costume award. Proceeds from the 2010 event went to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.
Tai Chi and Qigong, Chinese movement exercises, feature repeated movements and aim to improve your energy flow and health. Washington Park will host an educational Tai Chi and Qigong Day event on April 30, 2011. The opening ceremony will feature a tea ceremony and tea-tasting event with a Denver healer. The event will be held outdoors at the Washington Park Recreation Center, unless inclement weather moves it to an indoors venue at the park.
During the summer, Washington Park is a venue for free concerts. One such event is an annual performance by the Colorado Symphony. The park is also a good venue to watch the Denver Country Club's annual fireworks display for the 4th of July celebrations. In addition to these hosted events, the park hosts activities such as bicycling and inline-skating. In the summer, the park's colorful flowerbeds are a popular attraction.
