Unlike most of Latin America, but like most of the Southern Cone, Argentina uses European voltages and frequencies. In practice, that means that many US appliances need to be replaced or used with a transformer in order to be plugged in in Argentina. Argentina also uses a Type I socket, commonly used in Australia and New Zealand, meaning that many European appliances will also require a socket adapter to be used in Argentina. Most modern electronics, however, can be easily adapted to work in Argentina without expensive transformers or complex rewiring.
Check the technical specifications of your appliance. Most modern electronics and appliances are built to work in a range of voltages and frequencies. Any appliance with an Input of AC 100-240 volts(V) and 50-60 hertz (Hz) can be connected in Argentina, which uses single-phase voltage of 220 V and a frequency of 50 Hz, within common international specifications.
If your appliance only functions with a US input of 120 V, you will need to either replace it or purchase a voltage transformer in order to use it in Argentina. With a transformer, simply plug the transformer into the 22 V wall socket and plug your appliance into the 120 V output in the transformer.
If your appliance has an input range that includes Argentine voltages, purchase a simple adapter to add to your appliance's socket and plug it into an Argentine wall socket. Make sure your appliance fits into the adapter you purchase and that the end socket is compatible with Argentine wall sockets, usually Type I or C. Many adaptors also include a number of fittings and can adapt to most international socket types.
If you wish to permanently rewire your appliance to fit into an Argentine wall socket, simply purchase a Type I socket, cut off your existing socket, attach the new socket (making sure that the copper wire is in contact with the copper wire on the end of the new socket) and patch up the cut completely with electrical tape so that no copper wire is exposed. Note that this solution may be more expensive and will provide no additional benefits over purchasing a good adapter.
Plug in your appliance. Once you have made sure that your appliance has the input voltage it needs and that your end socket fits into an Argentine power source, you should have no trouble using foreign electronics in Argentina.
