Put the step into the extended position. Connect the four-wire plug from the control unit to the pigtail from the step. Attach the long 10-gauge green wire from the control unit to the negative terminal of the fully charged 12-volt battery. It must be grounded.
Hook up both the red wires from the pigtail to the positive terminal of the battery (keep hands and fingers clear of the step mechanism). Ground the brown wire from the pigtail to the negative terminal to extend the step. After the step has been extended, disconnect the red and white pigtail leads from the battery.
Attach the 10-gauge green wire ground to the chassis. Attach the brown wire from the four-wire plug/pigtail to the negative pole of the battery. Hook up the red and white pigtail wire leads to the positive pole of the battery (keep hands and fingers away from step mechanism).
Determine where the switch is to be located. Connect the brown wire lead from the vehicle half of the four-way plug to the door switch. Use a minimum of 16-gauge wire. Connect a 16-gauge wire from the other terminal to the chassis ground.
Mount the door switch in the door jamb and test the steps to assure they are working.
