Indoor Children's Activities in Jackson, New Hampshire

Although the town of Jackson, located in the White Mountains, is best known for the outdoor recreational activities that kids can enjoy such as hiking, biking and horseback riding, kids will find indoor activities here as well. It may be hard to keep the kids inside with so much to see and do outside, but when the weather keeps them from being playing outdoors, indoor activities in Jackson will keep them entertained.
  1. Visit the Mount Washington Observatory

    • Take the kids on an educational trip to the Mount Washington Observatory (mountwashington.org). The observatory is home to the "Weather Discovery Center," an interactive science museum where children can learn about climate and weather. The museum also features a live video of the people who work on the weather station whom the kids can interact with. The Weather Discovery Center is open daily except on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, and admission is free.

Watch a Show in Story Land

    • Although Story Land (storylandnh.com) is a theme park with different outdoor rides, one of its attractions is its shows that children can watch in indoor venues. Past performances have included, "The Royal Hanneford Circus," the interactive show "The Adventures of Molly Molecule," "Blake Daring's Storybook Adventure" and "Farm Follies." Admission to Story Land includes the rides, shows and attractions. Show times are posted in the park. Story Land opens in May on Memorial Day Weekend.

    Learn in a Museum

    • Spend the day with your children in the Mount Washington Valley Children's Museum (mwvchildrensmuseum.org). The activities and attractions in the museum are suitable for kids up to 9 years old. Exhibits in the museum allow kids to put on a puppet show, learn about nutrition and outer space, play in the infant and toddler area and create crafts. The Mount Washington Valley Children's Museum's schedule varies depending on weather conditions so contact the museum for more information. Admission fees apply but children under age 1 are free.

    Watch a Performance

    • The Whitney Community Center (no website; 54 Main St.; Jackson; 603-383-4223) is a multi-use facility where kids can watch performances or create artwork in the art room. In 2011, the community center featured the "Jackson Variety Show." The variety show was a free event that featured over a dozen performances including song and dance routines, music recitals, a juggling act, a yo-yo tricks performance and skits.

    Go to the Library
