Bars in Northeastern Philadelphia

Northeastern Philadelphia is the area between the Delaware River, Bucks County and Montgomery County. After the Second World War many Irish immigrants arrived in the area, hence the proliferation of Irish bars and pubs. However the area caters to all tastes, from sporting enthusiasts to karaoke fans.

  1. Irish Bars

    • Northeastern Philadelphia has Irish bars aplenty, Leneghan's Irish Inn and Paddy Whack's Irish Sports Pub are two of the most well known. Leneghan's in Mayfair is a friendly, neighborhood bar with a happy hour on Fridays and a mixed crowd. Paddy Whack's has flat screen televisions for patrons to watch sports. Both serve Guinness on draught as well as a number of European bottled beers.

    Sports Bars

    • Chickie's and Pete's Café takes sporting events very seriously, with pre- and post-game competitions and events. This bar even has its own interactive area, with individual "entertainment pods" for customers to sit in and play or watch sports at their leisure. Chickie's and Pete's also invented "crab fries" and the menu features other seafood dishes. The Rawnhurst Café also has arcade games as well as five flat screens and a happy hour every afternoon from 3 to 5. With 12 beers on tap, this bar bills itself as Philadelphia's oldest sports bar.

    Bars with Live Music/Karaoke

    • Whiskey Tango is open until 2 a.m. Thursday to Saturday. DJs and live bands play mostly rock and metal, although Tuesday is "new music night" and other events such as "Zombie Prom" also take place. Happy hours operate on Mondays and food is also available. Considered a bit of a neighborhood dive, Knights Tavern has karaoke every Thursday and live bands occasionally play during the week.

    Bars Serving Food

    • Maggie's Waterfront Café appeals for its riverside location and seafood offering that includes crab cakes, crab soup, shrimp and lobster. Others are drawn to the Irish beers, screens showing sports and occasional live music. Reedy's Tavern serves typical bar fare, ideal to soak up the liquor or if you're in need of a heavy, filling meal.
