Baltimore Activities

The variety of activities available in Baltimore is almost boundless, indoors or outdoors. Children can go to museums, parks, gardens, zoos and aquariums, or enjoy jogging, hiking and water sports. Adults may do the same, plus visit many historical and cultural sites, play golf, enjoy tours, movies, music, the theater, gyms, and a nightlife of bar-hopping and restaurant dining. Some Baltimore activities can be expensive, but many are cheap and can even be free.

  1. Port Discovery Children's Museum

    • This facility offers fun activities for the whole family, with three floors of educational, interactive exhibits and continuously changing programs for children. It has received numerous awards including "Top 10 Children's Museums" from Child Magazine. It's more popular permanent exhibits include the R&D Dream Lab, Studio Workshop, KidWorks and Harvest Hill. Located in the famous Inner Harbor, Port Discovery charges an entrance fee of $12.95 (2010 prices) for persons "aged 2 to 102." Children below two are allowed free, and birthday party packages and group rates are available.

    Babe Ruth Birthplace & Museum

    • This museum is for sports enthusiasts, but also is of interest to the general public. It is among the cheaper things to do in Baltimore, with admission at $6 for adults and $3 for children (2010 prices). The museum perpetuates the legacy of the greatest baseball player of all time by preserving and exhibiting its collections in an entertaining and educational manner. One exhibit highlights the feats of The Babe and the only two others who hit as many home runs as he did, as well as the 25 who hit 500 or more. Another exhibit shows the bedroom where he was born, and still another shows artifacts from when he attended school in Baltimore.
