Dude Ranches Near the Grand Canyon in Arizona

Dude ranches nestle near the Grand Canyon and continue the heritage of the American Southwest. Each year about 5 million people visit the Grand Canyon to view and descend into the steep canyon carved by the Colorado River, according to the National Park Service. Ranches, many of them still working cattle ranches, sit along its rim, especially along the South Rim, which is open year-round and is the most popular area for tourists.

    Grand Canyon Ranch

    • The Grand Canyon Ranch is on the western edge of the Grand Canyon. It offers a taste of the real West, according to its website, with pine cabins, Native American teepees, Western entertainment, helicopter flights and horseback rides into the canyon. The dude ranch is 165 squares miles. The Grand Canyon Ranch is a working cattle ranch.

    Phantom Ranch

    • Phantom Ranch is at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and is a popular area of respite and lodging for hikers, especially those traversing from rim to rim. The ranch is the only lodging available below the rim of the Grand Canyon. Phantom Ranch, on the north side of the Colorado River offers cabins and campsites, along with bathrooms and the Phantom Ranch Canteen.

    Stagecoach Trails Guest Ranch

    • Stagecoach Trails Guest Ranch is south of the Grand Canyon near Route 66 in northwest Arizona. Attractions include horseback riding, helicopter tours to the canyon, horseshoes, swimming and more. The ranch's website says it is "where the Old West Blends with the new." Stagecoach Trails prides itself on its horseback riding programs, tailored to riders with beginning, intermediate and advanced skills.

    Rancho de los Caballeros

    • Rancho de los Caballeros features riding trails and a golf course on the dude ranch south of the Grand Canyon in Wickenburg, Arizona. The working ranch occupies 20,000 acres in the high Sonoran desert and, because of the high temperatures of summer, is open to guests from October to mid-May. Other activities include jeep rides, mountain biking and hot air balloon adventures.
