Steakhouses in the Phoenix Area

Although often thought of for its southwestern and Mexican cuisine, the city of Phoenix, Arizona, offers visitors and residents a wide variety of dining options. Among these are casual and upscale steakhouses, some of which have earned top ratings or awards for their food or wine. With locations throughout the city, residents can find a Phoenix steakhouse near many well-known attractions like the Heard Museum, the Phoenix Art Museum and South Mountain Park.

    • Established in July of 1950, Durant's is in the central area of Phoenix along North Central Avenue. The restaurant held "Zagat" dining guide ratings of "very good to excellent" for its food, decor and service as of September 2010.

      The restaurant's signature steak is the 20-ounce Delmonico, which comes with soup or salad and a choice of starch. With about 225 selections, the wine list is a past recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence and consists primarily of Californian vintages. The restaurant's oversized martinis are another popular choice.

      Durant's serves lunch Mondays through Fridays and dinner nightly. Reservations are highly recommended and taken both online and by phone. Business casual attire is appropriate. A children's menu is available, and the restaurant has booster seats and high chairs. Complimentary valet parking is available around the back of the restaurant and allows diners to enter through the kitchen, giving a glimpse of the chef and staff at work.

    Donovan's Steak & Chop House

    • Donovan's Steak & Chop House is a small chain of four steak restaurants in the western U.S. The Phoenix location in the city's Camelback Corridor opened in January 2003. The restaurant held "Zagat" ratings of "very good to excellent" for its food, decor and service as of September 2010.

      All of the steaks are USDA certified prime beef with selections including the 14-ounce barrel-cut fillet and the 20-ounce Porterhouse. A potato and fresh seasonal vegetables accompany every steak. A past winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, the wine list consists of 500 selections, highlighting reds and whites from California, Italy and the Rhone and Bordeaux regions of France.

      Donovan's is open nightly for dinner. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made online and by phone. Business casual attire is the norm. Complimentary valet parking is available.

    Rustler's Rooste Steakhouse with a View

    • Rustler's Rooste Steakhouse with a View opened in 1971. Located on the grounds of the Pointe South Mountain Resort, the restaurant overlooks the resort's golf course as well as the city of Phoenix.

      Known for its indoor slide, the restaurant offers a children's menu and western-themed coloring activities for young diners; these touches have earned Rustler's awards for being the most kid-friendly or best family restaurant in Phoenix from AOL City'sbest and Phoenix Magazine. High chairs and booster seats are available.

      The steaks are certified black Angus beef, all dry-aged on-site. The menu is playful with names like the Trail Boss porterhouse, the Wagon Master New York strip and the Tenderfoot fillet. The steaks include a family-style salad shared by the entire table, as well as corn on the cob, a seasonal side dish, baked beans and bread. The bar serves four draft beers and a dozen bottled malt and beer selections and is also known for its frozen margaritas.

      Rustler's Rooste Steakhouse with a View serves dinner every day. Reservations are taken only for parties of eight or more. Call-ahead seating is available for smaller parties to help, allowing diners to add their names to the waiting list before leaving home; a wait is still possible at the restaurant, but is typically shorter. Casual attire is acceptable. Live country-western music is featured regularly. The restaurant has a private, free parking lot available.
