Held each Labor Day Weekend, the Detroit International Jazz Festival is a premier jazz festival. The event seeks to nurture the development of the musical genre of jazz, while also showcasing its history. Occupying several city blocks of downtown Detroit, the festival features five stages, over 100 different musicians and acts, giant puppets and fireworks. Jam sessions are held for music lovers to enjoy up-close and personal interaction with artists. The Detroit International Jazz Festival is a free event.

Celebrate the logging heritage of Newaygo, Michigan with the Newaygo Logging Fest. Held over Labor Day Weekend, the festival features chainsaw sculpture contests, Lumberjack's Competition and Fireman's Water Battle. Chainsaw sculptures can be purchased at an auction held during the event. Area merchants participate in the festival by holding sidewalk sales. An arts and crafts show, parade, BINGO tent and barbecue in the park are also available for visitors to enjoy.

Artists, musicians and vendors help celebrate Oakland County, Michigan with their involvement in Arts, Beats and Eats. Musical and dance performances are held throughout the event over the Labor Day holiday. An art fair features local and regional artisan crafts, including ceramics, digital art, glass and jewelry. Profits are distributed among local charities. Admission is free on Friday.
