Cooperstown's Baseball Hall of Fame is a magical place full of folklore and legends. Where the giants of the game have been honored, enshrined and remembered for eternity. But more than that, the Baseball Hall of Fame is a place that connects generations of people, passionate about baseball. The museum is a huge place, but with a little help, you'll be able to make the most of your visit and hopefully see everything.
Choose your time of year. Just like every other family attraction, the Baseball Hall of Fame is most crowded in the summer months (remember, the induction ceremony for the latest honorees in late July). The best time to visit Cooperstown is in the cool autumn months, when the tourists have left, the hotels are cheaper and the town literally shrinks back to a shell of it's former self. This is the time of year when you'll be able to wander through the Hall of Fame and have it all to yourself.
Become a member. While the prices are always fluctuating slightly, the best way to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame if you have a family is to become a member. This can be done on their website. For just a few dollars, you will gain free admission to their facility, and get alerts for other special deals, tickets and attractions that are exclusive to you and your family.
Reserve your accommodations. The Baseball Hall of Fame is kind of in the middle of nowhere. Which also means access is limited. If you are driving, obviously plan your trip on Google or Mapquest. But if you are flying be sure to book your ticket into Albany International Airport, as it is the closest airport to Cooperstown, NY. For hotels, search any of the major sites like hotels.com, hotwire.com or even expedia.com as they will have the best deals.
Be sure that you allow several days to visit the museum--four is about right. This gives you enough time to visit the Hall (which you'll want to go back to at least once), then take in the charm and beauty of the town, including the great shopping and batting cages and then maybe even catch a baseball game from one of the local minor league clubs.
