Campgrounds in Fairbanks, Alaska

Fairbanks is the largest city in the interior of Alaska. It is also the largest city close to Mt. McKinley. Fairbanks is an excellent spot to look for wilderness adventures. Surrounding outdoor activities include hiking, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. Fairbanks offers many camping spots for accommodating RVs and setting up tents. Bring enough warm clothing and suitable sleeping bag as it can get chilly at night out in the wilderness, even during the summer.

  1. Chena River State Recreation Site

    • Chena River State Recreation Site is a 29-acre park that rests on the banks of the Chena River. The campground includes 60 campsites for vehicles; 11 of the sites include electric and water hookups. There are also five walk-in campsites in secluded areas for tents, potable water and restrooms with flush toilets. The site is great for picnicking, boating and walking along the river.

    Tanana Valley Campgrounds

    • Make sure campgrounds allow dogs before you bring your dog to go camping.

      Tanana Valley Campgrounds features 50 sites for tents and 30 sites for RVs. The site also contains fire pits, picnic tables, Internet access, restrooms, limited electrical hookups, dump station, showers and laundry facilities. Plenty of hiking and biking trails are located at the campground. Nearby attractions include Creamers Wildlife Refuge and Alaska Bird Observatory. The campground welcomes dogs on leashes.
