Campgrounds in Anchorage, Alaska

With sweeping mountain views in almost every direction, the city of Anchorage, Alaska, is a mix of vast wilderness and tall buildings. Perhaps you may even spot a moose walking down a city street. Camping within the city limits provides an opportunity to experience the many things Anchorage has to offer in addition to the spectacular natural scenery found just outside the downtown area.
  1. Golden Nugget RV Park

    • Golden Nugget RV Park is home to 215 campsites, many of which include full-hookup options. Campground amenities include complimentary coffee, a BBQ pavilion, gift shop, wireless Internet access, 24-hour laundry facility and picnic tables at each site. Open year-round, Golden Nugget also includes restrooms and hot showers. Evening entertainment such as dog-sled demonstrations, comedy shows, magic shows, local musicians and potluck dinners are frequently hosted on site. Daily, weekly, monthly and long-term rates are available.

    Centennial Campground

    • Centennial Campground is run by the city of Anchorage and located in Centennial Park. Open only during the summer months from the end of May through the beginning of September, the campground is home to 100 sites. For those camping with a large group, two group sites are available. Enjoy the serenity of being in the wilderness as well as the convenience to downtown Anchorage, only 15 minutes away. Tent or RV camping is allowed and reservations are not needed, as all spots are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Showers are available for an extra fee. Wood is also sold on site.

    Creekwood Inn

    • The Creekwood Inn is located very close to downtown Anchorage and offers RV sites, cabins and motel rooms. The RV section includes 68 spaces, 58 of which include full-hookups. Campground amenities include a coin laundry facility, propane gas sales, free coffee and picnic tables. Reservations are recommended. Those opting for cabin camping will find full kitchens, beds and a front porch for relaxing. Adjacent to the property, visitors will find the Chester Creek Trail, which is a section of a 121-mile network for walking, in-line skating, biking and cross-country skiing.
