Campgrounds in Whittier, Alaska

Whittier is a small town in Alaska with a population of less than 200. Whittier is located on the Passage Canal, at the edge of Prince William Sound. The area is known for its many kinds of wildlife, such as goats, deer, bear, porpoises, sea otters, sea lions and varieties of birds. Many people come to the area every year for its outdoor activities, spending their free time hiking, kayaking, boating, scuba diving and fishing. There are several campgrounds in the Whittier area for you to stay while you explore the city and the sound.
  1. Williwaw Creek Campground

    • Williwaw Creek Campground is located on mile 4.1 of Portage Glacier Road, leading into the Whittier Tunnel. The campground is indeed nestled next to Williwaw Creek, and has 60 sites, toilet facilities and on-site water. The area is close to Begich Boggs Visitor Center, an excellent glacier-viewing area. The park also has easy access to the Williwaw Fish Viewing Site, a platform where visitors can see spawning salmon in the summer. The platform offers an excellent place to see eagles, birds and perhaps even brown and black bears as well. In addition, Williwaw Campground has its own hiking and biking trails.
