Annapolis, also known by locals as "Nap-town," is the state capital of Maryland. Home to an historic harbor and a restored downtown, Annapolis is a charming city where old meets new. Where else can you eat sushi and then walk past brick homes with flickering lanterns on cobblestone streets? Annapolis also is a city of contrasts. Home of the U.S. Naval Academy, white-uniformed midshipmen mix in with an assortment of wealthy yacht owners. Annapolis is a family-friendly city, with plenty of sights and food to entertain you and your children.
Annapolis is the home of the imposing Naval Academy. Though the academy is walled-off to the general public, you can still take a guided tour. For kids interested in the military, this is the place to visit in Annapolis. The visitor center has interactive exhibits about the academy's history. Perhaps the most famous thing about the academy happens at 12:05 p.m. when 4,000 midshipmen, dressed entirely in white, take part in a 20-minute marching drill in the academy's plaza.

Nothing is more iconic in Maryland than its blue crab. Your children will love learning how to pick apart a crab and Annapolis' most famous crab house is Cantler's. Located on the banks of the quiet Mill Creek, Cantler's features fresh crabs and other seafood. Summer is the best time to go for crabs. Cantler's also has a dock where your children can explore the crab tanks. For the ultimate evening, higher a boat to take you to Cantler's from downtown Annapolis.
