Disney Vacation Planning Guide

Most children these days dream of taking a Disney vacation. There are Disney movies, television programs, merchandise and more, which children adore. Alternatively, Disney offers a fun-packed, adventure-filled travel option for adults. In any event, Disney World offers a wide variety of travel options. With a little bit of advance planning and research, you can plan the perfect Disney vacation.

  1. When to Go to Disney World

    • Generally, the best time to travel to Disney World is when the weather is not very hot and when there are no large crowds. Certain months for this are November and January. These months have temperatures that are usually between 60 degrees and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, the crowds are less substantial than other months, so you will not have to wait in long lines and fight crowds. Alternatively, Disney offers various events throughout the year you may want to attend, such as the October Food and Wine Festival at Epcot Center.

Where to Stay at Disney World

    • Ideally, if you can afford to stay right on the Disney property, there are many benefits. First, there are more than 25 locations to stay at, all at different price points, from budget-minded to luxury accommodations. In addition, when you stay on the property, you can take free transportation all over the park. This transportation is very convenient and runs about every 10 minutes, so it's quick to get you exactly where you want to go. Furthermore, when you stay at a Disney hotel, the trip does not end at the end of the day; rather, the vacation continues around the clock. Alternatively, there are hotels right outside of Disney World that offer various price points, and most of the hotels offer Disney vacation packages and free breakfasts.

What Type of Tickets to Purchase

    • Disney offers a variety of ticket options. There are tickets that allow ticket holders to go in and out of the different parks for their entire stay, called "Park Hopper" tickets. This is a great option if you want unrestricted ability to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Another option is to purchase a restricted-use ticket, which allows the ticket holder to gain entrance into a certain park on a certain day. These tickets are generally cheaper, but can only be used on the particular date for which they are purchased. When booking a Disney trip, ask the Disney agent if there are any specials, as Disney frequently will offer discounted prices on the more expensive tickets.

    Where to Eat at Disney

    • Disney offers a variety of dining options. Recently, Disney started a meal plan for eating within the resort. The meal plan includes two sit-down meals and one fast-food/counter-service restaurant option. The plan also can be modified to include additional meals. When purchasing the meal plan, be sure to inquire as to any restricted restaurants, as there are some that are not included in the plan. If you do not want to purchase a meal plan option, Disney offers many different kinds of restaurants. For luxury, expensive dining, there is the Victoria and Albert Restaurant located in the Grand Floridian hotel. This restaurant offers a sophisticated menu, provides a harpist and/or piano music, and is reserved generally for adults. A reservation is essential, as the location is quite popular. There also are fun sit-down restaurants, such as the Prime Time Fifties Diner or buffets with Disney characters. If you are looking to save money, consider bringing small snacks into the park.
