How to Change Your Itinerary at United Airlines

Changing your itinerary for an airline can prove to be a frustrating process. Depending on the airline and the flight, you can be slammed with charges for changing your itinerary. The best way to avoid these charges is by knowing the complete process for changing your itinerary. United Airlines offers customers the ability to change their itineraries online, except when changing Mileage Plus awards tickets or Miles and Money Award tickets, in which case you must call Customer Service.

Instructions

    • 1

Retrieve your reservation by logging into the United Airlines website. You can use any of the following information: confirmation number and last name, e-ticket number and last name, or credit card number and last name.

    • 2

Make the changes to the itinerary. Note that you can only make changes online if you have any of the following: an e-ticket issued in American or Canadian dollars, an e-ticket for travel on marketed United or United Express flights, have an e-ticket that has a published fare, have an e-ticket issued for one-way or round trip flight.

    • 3

Check your credit card statement over the next few days. After the changes are complete, any difference in fares -- including taxes and service charges -- will be assessed. The price difference will either be refunded to the original credit card or charged to the provided form of payment. If neither has occurred, or you have any questions, contact United Airlines Customer Service.
