Verify that you purchased an e-ticket. If you bought your ticket online from United.com, you can change your reservation on United's website. Similarly, if you purchased your ticket by calling reservations staff at United Airlines, you would have been issued an e-ticket and can change your reservation online.

Visit United.com to retrieve your reservation. You will need to enter your reservation confirmation number, e-ticket number or your credit card number -- as well as your last name -- to log in. If you are using your Mileage Plus number to retrieve your reservation, you will be required to enter your password. If you are calling United's reservations number (1-800-864-8331), you are also required to provide this information.

Amend your itinerary by selecting new flights for one or more of your flight segments. After selecting your new flight, any applicable fees and fare changes, as well as applicable taxes and service charges, will be displayed before you confirm the change. If you are calling United directly, the agent should indicate the costs associated with changing your reservation before finalizing your changes.

Confirm your changes by either reviewing the confirmation email you receive from United, or by logging onto United's website. Ensure that the correct dates and times are reflected in your revised itinerary. If there is a mistake, call United directly to advise them of the error, rather than making any further changes online.
