Airtran Airways Baggage Policy

AirTran Airways was established to provide low-fare flights for business and leisure travelers. Its in-flight offerings include Wi-Fi, overhead bins, business class, assigned seats and XM Satellite Radio. It has a fleet of Boeing airliners and a frequent flier program.
  1. Carry-On Policies

    • Each passenger is allowed to carry one personal item and one carry-on item on board. Personal items include garment bags, small musical instruments, laptop computers, cameras and handbags.

    Assistive Devices

    • AirTran passengers with disabilities are allowed to carry on items such as walkers, canes and crutches, provided they fit in an overhead bin or under a seat. These devices do not count as carry-on items.

    Approved Dimensions

    • A carry-on bag cannot exceed 24 inches in length, 18 inches in width and 13 inches in height for a 55-inch total linear measurement. For personal items such as purses, laptops, cameras and briefcases to be able to fit under a seat; they cannot exceed 17 inches in length, 12 inches in width and 8.5 inches in height.

    Checked Baggage

    • AirTran only checks passengers and baggage until 45 minutes before the departure time for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international flights. Baggage can be checked up to four hours before departure.

    Cost

    • The first checked bag costs $20 (as of 2010). A second checked bag is charged $25. All subsequent bags will cost $50 each. Overweight and oversize charges may apply to bags weighing more than 50 pounds and greater than 61 inches in total dimensions.
