American Airlines Luggage Tag Requirements

Air travel is stressful enough without having to worry about lost or misdirected luggage. Attaching luggage tags to identify your luggage can make for a smoother, hassle-free trip and help you pick out your luggage at the carousel when you arrive at your destination. American Airlines has no requirements for luggage tags; however, they offer some tips on how best to label your bags.
  1. American Airlines Tags

    • AA offers free paper tags that travelers can pick up from any baggage check-in location. Fill out your name and address on each tag and attach the tags to the outside of your luggage. You must check your baggage at least 30 minutes before departing from an airport in the United States.

    Your Own Tags

    • You can attach home-made or purchased tags to your luggage that display your name and address. AA sells personalized luggage tags to travelers for $20 for a set of two plastic tags. The tags have the owner's name printed directly on the plastic tag. The tags do not list the address, however.

    Priority Baggage Delivery

    • First class, business class, AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum, Aairpass, Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members are eligible to receive priority baggage delivery. AA waives members' baggage charges and expedites the receipt of luggage on arrival. At check-in, members' luggage is tagged with priority bag tags to help identify the luggage for this service.
