Southwest Airlines is a low-cost carrier with a few policies unique to it.
A medical release is required for travel with infants younger than 14 days old.
Southwest allows one lap child younger than 2 years old for no additional fee when traveling with an adult (age 12 or older). Proof of infant's age might be required.
Lower infant fares are available for babies and toddlers who require their own seat. An approved car seat is required.
The airline accepts small vaccinated cats and dogs for a fee of $75 as of October 2009. In-cabin pets must be in an approved carrier.
Two checked bags with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. and a maximum size of 62 inches are allowed for free. Additional or oversized bags incur fees.
Not all flights on Southwest are refundable. All refunds are handled through reservations, customer relations or the refund department, or online if the outbound flight has not departed.
