The Napa Valley Wine Train has been in operation for more than 20 years, traveling along rails built in 1864. The train itself consists of several restored Pullman cars, Vista Dome cars and converted diesel locomotive engines.
Tours begin at the station in the town of Napa and travel north through the valley to Calistoga, a leisurely journey of 36 miles that takes three hours.
With a choice of lunch or dinner, passengers enjoy a freshly prepared meal as part of the excursion. Three dining cars, each with its own charm (and pricing), feature specials showcasing local and seasonal cuisines.
Options include guided winery tours and tastings. Depending on which day you travel, you may disembark at Domaine Chandon, Grgich Hills or Raymond Vineyards. You can also enjoy the wine-tasting bar aboard the train.
The annual calendar highlights events such as vintner's lunches, murder-mystery dinner theater, family nights and moonlight rides.
