Car Pooling Programs

One of the most irritating parts of any commute, traffic forces employees to lose precious work time and tests the patience of even the most relaxed driver. Most major cities offer some sort of transit program whether by bus or subway. Some cities and areas offer car pool programs as another alternative.
  1. Kansas City Area RideShare Program

    • The RideShare Program facilitated in the Kansas City area helps match commuters looking for carpool or vanpool options. Participants in the program receive a free ride home if they get injured or ill during work or if there is some sort of office emergency. The program sends representatives to employers looking to set up a company carpool system. RideShare also maintains park-and-ride lots throughout the Kansas City area. As an added service, the program's website updates commuters on traffic and construction situations throughout the day. The program holds a monthly prize giveaway of gift cards to area stores and restaurants to one participant who uses the online Commuter Tracker calender, which is used to log a personal history of carpooling.

    Dallas Area Programs

    • The Dallas Area Rapid Transit authority offers two programs for commuters looking to carpool. The first option matches carpool candidates. The second and more intensive option offers a vanpool service to any commuter living and working in Dallas, Denton or Collin counties. The service offers van transportation for six to 15 passengers for $290 total per group. The service also includes the insurance for the riders. The vanpool bypasses most traffic by using the HOV lanes in and around the Dallas area. The service also offers an emergency ride home by van or taxi for $10 per passenger for up to two times during a three-month period.

    San Mataeo Carpool Incentive Program

    • San Mataeo County, California, which sits in the San Francisco and San Jose metropolitan areas, offers a carpool incentive program to business commuters, college students and the parents of school children. The program gives $60 in gas gift card incentives to employees who either start a new carpool with two or more passengers or add a new passenger to their existing carpool. College students receive a $20 gas card per rider if they car pool twice a week for four weeks. Parents of school children receive a $25 gas card per parent for transporting two or more children from a minimum of two different residences two days a week. The area also offers HOV lanes on the highways for cars with three or more passengers.
