Florida Carpool Programs

Carpooling programs facilitate ride sharing by two or more people to and from home, school and work. The benefits of carpooling programs include shared cost of transportation, reduced vehicles on the road, and reduced gas emissions in the environment. Carpooling programs in Florida offer flexible commuter schedules and times, emergency ride-home service and on-line registration. Carpool terms and conditions vary depending on the type of program.
  1. Florida Atlantic University Carpool Program

    • Florida Atlantic University (FAU) offers a carpool parking program for faculty, staff and students at the Boca Raton, Davie and Fort Lauderdale campuses. Carpools must operate for more than two days a week, consist of at least two FAU students or faculty members, and park in the appropriate spots designated by the university. Reserved carpool parking spots are available for commuters who have a valid university permit and a carpool permit.

Commuters must register with the university and South Florida Commuter Services to join the program. Registration is valid for a full semester, after which commuters can apply for renewal.

Park and ride locations are located throughout the counties. To enroll in the program, commuters must set up an on-line profile through the SFCS website and complete an on-line commuter profile. Once the profile is complete, a map of available carpools is provided via the SFCS website. Commuters can then choose a carpool that fits their desired commute and schedule.

Emergency ride home (ERH) program service is available to commuters who participate in carpooling programs for at least three days a week. Commuters can use up to six ERH rides each year, at any time. Qualifying emergency situations include commuter or family illness, overtime or extended work hours, and inability of a carpool driver to complete the scheduled return trip home because of an illness or unexpected change in work schedule.

    University of Florida Carpool Program

    • The University of Florida offers a carpool program and parking spots for faculty and staff on the main campus. Each carpool has to have two registered members who are full-time faculty or staff and work similar daytime schedules. The other members of the carpool do not need to be registered. Each registered participant pays a fee to purchase a carpool decal. In order to park in a carpool parking spot, two parking decals must be displayed in the carpool vehicle. An emergency ride home service is provided by the university to participants in the program who have an unexpected family illness or emergency and need a drive home.
