How to Get an International Driving License

When traveling abroad, sometimes it would be nice to take a drive around the country side. To do so, you must obtain an International Driver's License. Getting one is a very simple process that only requires you to have a valid license in your home country. It is best to set this process in motion two to three months before you plan to leave.

Instructions

Through AAA In Person

  Go to the AAA website and print out an application for an international driver's license.

  Take your two passport photos, driver's license, application and $15 to your local AAA office. If you want expedited service, the fee will be closer to $35.

  Apply for the license.

  Wait four to six weeks for your license to arrive in the mail.
Through AAA By Mail

  Print out the application from the AAA website and fill it out.

  Make copies of the front and back of your driver's license.

  Mail the passport photos, driver;s license copies, application and a check or money order for $15 to AAA. If you need it faster, find out the exact fees needed and be sure to include them when writing your check.

  Wait for the license to come in the mail in about four to six weeks.
