How to Make a Luggage Trunk for a Scooter

Scooter trips are fun and inexpensive; however, if you are going overnight or on a longer trip than simply to the local grocery store, you may need more storage than is offered by the underseat trunk. If this is the case, then you may want to look into scooter luggage trunks. Luggage trunks are simply small storage spaces that fit on the back side of a scooter seat/rack area. While their function is relatively simple, they can be costly to purchase, so consider building one and spend your money on souvenirs.

Visit a local sporting goods store and purchase an appropriate-sized gun box or plastic toolbox. One of the simplest ways to build a scooter trunk is to mount a pre-built ammo canister onto the rear rack. These cans are solidly constructed, waterproof and secure.

Use a drill to make several small holes in the bottom of the box or canister then secure it to the rear rack of the scooter seat with machine bolts and wing nuts.

Load the trunk up to the maximum weight allowable on the rack, minus the weight of the canister or box (normally around 20 pounds). This type of trunk is easy to build and quick to install; however, it is not waterproof unless you seal around the edges with silicone and rubberize the bottom of the trunk with water sealant.
